Clay on the Wheel: the Butler Ceramics Program

Resources for Ceramics 1 and 2

Ceramics 1 and 2 at Butler Community College  teach skills and technique and artistry in the craft of wheel-thrown pottery.  The courses transfer to all Kansas institutions.

No book is required, but the amount of time to succeed in the course requires the minimum 6 hours scheduled weekly plus at least 3 more hours of your own time, whether you:

    • Practice on the wheel
    • Watch video demonstrations
    • Read pottery and ceramics magazines
    • Visit potter's studios
    • Attend art fairs, shows, museums
    • Read books from the library on the history or techniques of pottery
    • Test glazes
    • Buy or sell pots

We can't offer a wheel to do practice online, but we link you up here to extraordinary video, essential books and magazines, and notices of art shows and fairs in the area.  Please click the tabs along the top of this guide to for links to videos, books, Kansas artists, etc.
