Evaluating a Website

We at the library love the Internet as much as everyone, but consider a few factors before using an Internet site as a source for your college level research.

You can use the CRAAP test as a guideline for evaluating information found on the open Internet:

Currency - when was it published, how often is it updated, does the Website have broken links
Relevance - does the information meet your research need, is it relevant to you as a college student
Authority - who is the author, what are his or her credentials
Accuracy - can you verify information with another source, is it reliable information
Purpose - what is the main purpose, how objective is it

You can always ask a librarian or your professor for an opinion about a specific website.
