First Generation College Students (FGCS)

This guide provides information about library services for First Generation College Students as well as information about other Butler resources available.

Library Resources

1. We have physical stuff for you to use for free (all available with your Butler student I.D., and we don't charge late fees).

  • Books
    • Fiction
    • Non-fiction (for research)
    • Children's picture books 
    • Children's chapter books
    • Graphic novels
  • DVDs
  • Video Games
    • PS3 & PS4
    • Xbox
    • Nintendo Switch
  • Textbooks (many instructors purchase a copy of the textbook for their class and put it on "reserve" for students to use in the library) 
  • Biology models (for use in library to study for Biology and Anatomy & Physiology classes)

2. We provide access to hundreds of electronic resources too.

  • Databases - these provide access to hundreds of thousands of digitized articles that students use for research
  • Electronic books - we know it's not always easy or possible to get on campus to get a book
  • Streaming videos - videos can be a fantastic study tool or resource for research projects

3. We have awesome places to work and study.

  • Lots of tables, chairs, whiteboards, computers for use - we want you to be comfortable; make it your own
  • Quiet study rooms are available at both El Dorado and Andover
  • El Dorado has a podcast studio for your use
  • El Dorado has a coffee bar too

4. We employ great people ready to work with you on your research assignments. Visit with us.
