Resources: Faculty

A general resources guide for Butler faculty and adjuncts.

Instruction: Overview

Information literacy (IL) skills are necessary for students to successfully pursue their college studies and later, as graduates, to stay abreast of current developments in their area of specialization. The ability to retrieve and evaluate information also assists individuals in making personal decisions.

Butler Libraries and Archives is committed to teaching students the skills necessary to critically assess and ethically use information in individual and group settings. Our instruction librarians are available to teach your students about how to find, evaluate, and use information.

Request Instruction

There are four steps to requesting instruction from our instruction librarians.

Step 1: Choose your session.

Choose between an entrée or à la carte.

  • Entrée (50-90 minutes): An introduction to the library, library resources scavenger hunt, or research support.
  • À La Carte (10-90 minutes): Create your own entree out of the following: library catalog, selecting a topic, keywords, search strategies, databases, source type, evaluating sources, citations, etc.

Step 2: Choose your format.

You can choose either face-to-face or online. Online instruction sessions can be live or recorded.

  • Face-to-face: Our classroom in El Dorado seats up to 24 students, and our classroom in Andover seats up to 22 students. We can also visit your classroom.
  • Online: Synchronous/live (Zoom or Teams) or asynchronous (recorded) sessions are available.

You can also request an embedded or personal librarian for your courses. However, requests must be at the beginning of the semester and require a consultation with the librarian of your choice.

Step 3: Choose your librarian.

We have four instruction librarians, two in El Dorado and two in Andover.

El Dorado
  • Miranda Windholz (she/her): Humanities and Social and Behavioral Sciences; Arts, Digital Media, and Communications; and Health Science
  • Kara Price (they/she): Humanities and Social and Behavioral Sciences; Arts, Digital Media, and Communications; and Marketing
Andover
  • Kim Veliz (she/her): Humanities and Social and Behavioral Sciences, and Health Science
  • Libby Sprague (she/her): Online Learning Specialist

Step 4: Complete your order.

Send an email to the librarian of your choice with the following information:

  • Course name and number
  • Date, time, and location (building and classroom number or online)
  • Number of anticipated students in the class
  • Assignment and rubric of type of instruction requested
  • Additional information as needed to help the librarian prepare your request

Request Instructional Materials

If you do not have time to schedule an instruction session for your class, our instruction librarians can develop supplemental resources for your class or an assignment.

Examples of supplemental resources include:
