Library FAQs

Look here to get answers to frequently asked questions about the library and its resources.

What's the deal with checking out books, DVDs, or video games?

Can I checkout books, DVDs, or video games?

Yes! The Butler Libraries have lots of items that you can checkout and use for free. Your Butler I.D. is your library card. Check the Butler Library catalog for a searchable list of the items available.

I'm not a Butler student, faculty, or staff. Can community members check things out?

Yes, you can come to the front desk of either of our library locations and get set up with a community user card (Kansas Driver's license or KS I.D. required). You'll have access to our physical items and we can show you the electronic resources that you have access to through the State Library of Kansas. Due to licensing agreements, we cannot offer you access to the Butler subscription electronic resources.

How many items and how long may I keep items checked out?

You may checkout up to 10 items total at a time with a maximum of 5 DVDs, 2 video games, and 1 board game/puzzle.

Books                                3 weeks
Video Games                    3 weeks
Board Games/Puzzles      1 week
DVDs                                1 week

If I need extra time, how do I renew an item I have checked out?

If you need to keep something beyond the regular loan period, it's likely that we can do a renewal for you. Just come in, call, chat, or e-mail us and we'll check into it for you.

If I'm late returning, is there a late fee?

Good news! We don't charge late fees. The only time we'd expect money is if something is lost or damaged beyond repair.
