How do I know if my article is scholarly (AKA peer-reviewed)?

Here are some things to look for that may indicate your article is scholarly:

  • The article includes sections for:
    • introduction
    • background/literature review
    • methods
    • discussion
    • conclusion
  • The article includes some or all of the following:
    • citations for sources
    • footnotes
    • endnotes
    • parenthetical citations within the body of the text
  • The authors are experts in the subject area and are often professors, researchers, or highly qualified practitioners
  • The language used is often highly specialized and specific to the subject
