GENERAL INFO ABOUT PAPER FORMATTING

  • Your paper should have 1" margins on all sides.

  • You should use Times New Roman, 12 pt. font.

  • Double-space the text, except when using blockquotes, footnotes, and reference/bibliography list entries.

  • Use a 1/2 inch indent for the beginnings of paragraphs, blockquotes, and hanging indents.

  • Use left-align text.

  • Number the pages in the top right corner of the header, starting on the first page of text. Do not put a page number on the title page.

    • Depending on your professor, your last name may need to be included with the page number in the header.

  • Omit extra spacing between paragraphs.

Cover or Title Page

Not all instructors require a cover or title page; however, formal research papers do require them.

GENERAL INFO ABOUT COVER OR TITLE PAGES

  • The title should be in ALL CAPS and centered on-third of the way down the page.
  • If the title has a subtitle, end the first part of your title with a colon (:) and enter the subtitle, still in ALL CAPS, on the next line.
  • Your name, class information, and the date should be centered towards the bottom of the page.
  • Double-space each line of the cover page.
  • Do not put a page number on the cover page.
